Kranjska Gora is one of the most popular mountain resorts in the area. It is bustling all year round — with skiers in the winter and hikers and mountain lovers in the summer. So what’s there to experience?
Naravni rezervat Zelenci is one of the most picturesque spots you can find — turquoise green water ponds set under a stunning backdrop of the Alps. Park at the small parking area right by the road, then walk along the wooden walkways, enjoy the serenity, and climb the viewpoint tower.

Continue your way to Jezero Jasna — here parking can be a bit tricky. It is quite limited and payable. If there’s nothing available, you can park in Kranjska Gora and take a walk to the lake, which is a great option.
By the lake, enjoy the beautiful views, take a picture by the statue of Kozorog (most Slovenians have that photo), have a picnic, grab a coffee by the shore, or even take a dip if you’re really brave — but be careful — it is COLD!
Follow the winding road to the top of Vršič Pass. Stop by Ruska kapelica. The wooden chapel, dedicated to St. Vladimir, was built in 1915 by Russian war prisoners. Construction began in 1915 and was completed later that year or early in 1916. It was built due to the need for a religious space for the large number of Russian prisoners. Most of the prisoners who died while building the road over Vršič were buried in Trenta, while a shared grave with remains is located near the chapel.
You can also hike from the top of Vršič to Slemenova špica, which takes about 1 hour. It is especially beautiful during the fall when the larches turn golden. Other routes from Vršič include Prisojnik, Mojstrovka, and Razor.
If you're not that into hiking you can also just grab a lunch at Mihov dom na Vršiču or Erjavčeva koča.
Note: Pay attention to the signage — you have to use the correct ramp, as one is for crossing the pass and one is for parking at the top.

Planica is the site of one of the biggest sports events in Slovenia — ski jumping. Check out the magnificent ski jumps, grab a coffee, and explore the Nordic centre or if you're brave, try the zipline from the top of the ski jump.
You can also take a walk down the Tamar valley and enjoy lunch at the hut at the end.

Mojstrana is another valley with plenty to offer. Visit the Slovenian Alpine Museum or take a walk to the stunning Slap Peričnik — a cascading waterfall you can even walk behind. On the way, stop by Jezero Kreda, which got its name from the chalk (kreda) that was once excavated there.
Kranjska Gora and the surrounding areas offer hikes for both less and more experienced hikers.
The area is fantastic for kids, offering everything from nature exploration and water play to winter sledding and dedicated attractions.
